As part of the integrated design team, our firm provided the overall planting design for the 16,000 square foot green roof installation; Canada’s second largest green roof. The LEED Platinum building is one of the most sustainably designed, low energy buildings in North America. The Seaport Farmers’ Market has transformed a former seaport terminal into an ecological showcase on the Halifax waterfront.
The green roof features 10 different species of locally supplied red and green sedum, a drought-tolerant succulent native to the region. The plants cool the building naturally in the summer and eliminate the need for air conditioning.
Recognized as one of the most beautiful green roofs in the North America, the team was awarded the international 2012 Cities Alive Green Roof Award of Excellence in the Extensive Industrial/Commercial category.
