Vollick McKee worked closely with Pier 21 personnel and sponsors to deliver a complete site design for the notable Pier 21 Nation Builders’ Plaza at the Port of Halifax.
• The design successfully responded to various challenges including waterfront loading restrictions, high tide conditions and the selection of materials appropriate for the historic setting.
• The site planning and detailed design work resulted in the fluid integration of the mechanical, structural, and architectural characteristics of the site.
• Features included designing and detailing numerous exterior features including dramatic paving patterns and stone-faced landscape seat walls whilst it is anticipated that the plaza structure will be a national landmark for many years to come.
